Business Development Strategy

You want the best for your business. You’ve nurtured it from a small seedling, hoping it will blossom into something beautiful. Whilst it’s a lovely analogy – and there’s an abundance of similarly flowery and unpractical advice floating around the internet - business development is far more complex than sprinkling a flower with water and keeping it in a sunny spot in the garden.

Every business requires a practical, realistic strategy for growth.

The first stage of building a strategy is reflection. You need to be able to answer two questions: where does my business fit currently in the industry and where do I want it to go?

Answering the first question is integral to answering the latter. Once you have identified your place in the market, you can formulate some achievable, actionable steps which can take you where you want to go.

Deciding where you want your business to be is a difficult one. Why shouldn’t you dare to dream big? Be the best company in your industry, become the leading brand everyone gravitates towards without a second thought? It sounds amazing but the reality of the road ahead can be disheartening. If your business is just starting, or has only enjoyed modest success thus far, your big dreams may seem unattainable. You may know where you want to be – but you have no idea how to get there. On a practical level, what can you do?

There’s no need to curb your business dreams just yet.

The key is flexibility. Your goals are only implemented by yourself. If they are simply too large or intimidating, consider breaking them down.

You can move your own goal posts. In fact, you definitely should. It’s the best way to ensure you continue to progress, continue to push boundaries without stagnation.

There are many ways to step up your business. Investing in a social media strategy, optimising your online content, refining your brand and developing a brand awareness campaign are all services I offer my clients. By analysing the specificities of your business, we can develop a bespoke plan to target areas for improvement, and drive your business forwards.

With each smaller goal achieved, you will be able to outline new ones. Once your strategy is implemented, you can adjust it accordingly to what clients are most responsive to, building that indispensable personalised relationship with your audience.

An effective business development strategy makes growth exponential. The longer you maintain a strategy, the easier it will be to predict future growth. Once you can see how energised your business growth is with a strategy in place, you’ll never want to be without one.

If you’re a business-owner feeling inspired by this post, why not get in touch? I’d love to talk about taking your business to the next level.
